Driver & Warehouse Operative

We are excited to add a new Driver & Warehouse Operative to our team to help us run our Surplus with Purpose scheme, as well as to support our normal daily operations.

A typical day will include carrying out the daily van safety check, collecting your order lists from the Food Allocations team and then picking the fruit & veg for each order, which will be between 400kgs and 800kgs.  After safely building the pallets, you’ll load them onto the van and then unload at the Community Food Members’ (CFMs) site.  You’ll collect their empty trays and return them to our Warehouse, perhaps stopping to refuel on the way, where you’ll take on Warehouse duties as required e.g. picking orders, cleaning, goods-in, stock rotation etc.

You are the face of FareShare GM to our CFMs so you’ll need top notch customer service skills, excellent communication skills and a commitment to working in a culturally sensitive way.  It’s a physical job so you can comfortably lift up to 25kg at a time repeatedly and throughout the day.  For insurance purposes, you need to be at least 25 years’ old, with experience of safely driving commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. If you have a licence for driving larger vehicles (up to 7.5 tonnes), even better.

The role is based onsite at our Warehouse on New Smithfield Market.

Salary: £24,785 – £25,798 per year (depending on licence held)

Hours & days: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday

Food Allocations Coordinator

You’ll take ownership for the smooth running of the Allocations office, supervising the safe distribution of surplus food to our Community Food Members by staff and volunteers in a busy operation with lots of moving parts.

By working closely with the Warehouse team and delivery drivers, you’ll help ensure timely, accurate and food safe compliant deliveries and collections, optimising our income whilst minimising food waste.

To be a success in this role, you’ll need to have experience in a busy office or operational environment, great communication skills, and experience supervising and motivating staff.  You can adapt to regularly changing priorities, are happy to get involved where needed and constantly review daily targets to keep the team on track.  Ideally you’ll have some experience with volunteers (or have volunteering experience yourself), and/or in the not for profit sector working with disadvantaged groups.

We support a wide range of community groups as well as a large number of volunteers who donate their time to support our operation, so you are someone who relates positively to people from a range of backgrounds, skill levels, and levels of motivation.

The role is based onsite at our Warehouse on New Smithfield Market.

Food Allocations Assistant

As a Food Allocations Assistant you’ll allocate surplus food to our Community Food Members (CFMs).  Working closely with our Warehouse team and volunteers, you’ll quickly and accurately add incoming food to our database and then speak to our CFMs to confirm their orders.

Along with your can-do attitude, you’ll be a strong communicator (both on the phone and in-person) and be able to work quickly under pressure and to tight deadlines: our food needs to move in and out of the Warehouse before it’s past its best.  You are curious about food and able to build an understanding of what’s on our database along with the types of food our CFMs are looking for, in order to allocate it efficiently.

We support a wide range of community groups as well as a large number of volunteers who donate their time to support our operation, so you are someone who relates positively to people from a range of backgrounds, skill levels, and levels of motivation.

The role is based onsite at our Warehouse on New Smithfield Market.  We are happy to discuss your preferred working days.
