Every week, thousands of people across our city benefit from surplus food redistributed by FareShare Greater Manchester which has been rescued from going to waste. That simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible businesses that choose to donate their good-to-eat surplus food.
This week we’re giving a Thursday Thank You to Stateside Foods, a leading UK pizza manufacturer, whose generous donations are helping ensure good food reaches charities and community groups across Greater Manchester instead of going to waste.
Stateside Foods manufactures a wide range of pizzas for many of the UK’s major retailers, but its commitment to sustainability goes far beyond the production line.
The company has introduced a number of initiatives to reduce food waste across all three of its manufacturing sites. One of its biggest achievements has been ensuring all bakery surplus is now redirected to animal feed, significantly reducing food waste while supporting a more circular food system.
Alongside these operational improvements, Stateside Foods is committed to ensuring that surplus food suitable for people reaches those who need it most.
Through its partnership with FareShare Greater Manchester, surplus pizzas and ingredients that can no longer be sold are redistributed to charities and community groups across the region instead of going to waste.
Between January and June 2026 alone, the partnership redistributed 7.2 tonnes of surplus food, helping provide an estimated 17,021 meals while preventing around 14.2 tonnes of CO₂e emissions.
For Stateside Foods, donating surplus food is about much more than preventing waste.
With millions of people across the UK experiencing food insecurity, the company recognises the important role businesses can play in supporting local communities while protecting the environment.

The team responsible for implementing the donation process were equally enthusiastic, recognising the initiative as “the right thing to do” and working hard to make it a success.
Since donations began, Stateside Foods says it has been impressed by the support and flexibility of the FareShare Greater Manchester team, helping establish a partnership that has been rewarding from day one.
“It’s been fantastic to see the enthusiasm and appreciation from the FareShare team when supporting the new donations. They’ve been incredibly helpful and flexible, making the partnership both smooth and rewarding.”
The company also values receiving regular impact reports, showing exactly how its surplus food has helped local communities.
“It’s great to receive the summary report and understand how many people we have been able to help and how many meals have been provided through the partnership.”
Knowing that perfectly good food is reaching families, charities and community organisations instead of being wasted is, they say, the most rewarding part of working together.
Stateside Foods hopes other food businesses will consider donating their own surplus food.
